Prayer for the Animals
by Albert Schweitzer
Hear our humble prayer, O God, for our friends, the
animals. Especially for animals who are suffering; for any that are
hunted or lost or deserted or frightened or hungry; for all that must be
put to death.
We entreat for them all Thy mercy and pity,
and for those who deal with them, we ask a
a heart of compassion and gentle hands and kindly words. Make us,
ourselves, to be true friends to animals,
and so to share the blessings of the merciful.
If you see a
case of equine/other animal abuse, we
urge you to contact the following
organizations to advise them of the facts:
-
your local society
for the prevention of cruelty to animals (spca) and/or humane
society (which may have the power to enforce animal cruelty laws in
your area);
-
your
State Department of Agriculture;
-
local law enforcement
officials;
-
the city/county Health
Department or Board (because abuse of animals often involves unsafe
or unsanitary conditions for humans); and/or
-
if none of
the above are helpful, local media organizations.
You may be asked
about the specific details of any animal(s) in need and to file a
complaint. If legal action results, feel free to contact the ASPCA, they
may be able to support lawyers and prosecutors with examples of similar
cases and general legal information.

And can there be a
horse person who doesn't have a dog and/or cat as a faithful friend? At
Heaven's Gate Farm, we support
Irish Wolfhound Rescue.
You're welcome to visit our

to see how wonderful these hounds are. Their big hearts and gentle
demeanor truly give meaning to the phrase "gentle giant".
You may wish to support a particular
breed rescue too. The
American Kennel Club (AKC)
has a group that supports the rescue of your favorite breed(s).
